I
am a full time U23 road racer from Dumbarton. My ambition is to
become a top professional road rider and race for Scotland at the
Commonwealth Games RR in Glasgow 2014.
I
started racing bikes when I was 13 in 2005, after playing football
before that. My Dad and Uncle were good racers in their time. And up
until 2009, as a youth and Junior, I was mainly focused on mountain
bike Cross Country. I was Scottish Junior Champion and got a podium
at the British Junior MTB Championships racing for Rockhard MTB club.
On the road, I was 4th
on the last stage of the Junior Tour of Wales 2009 which finished on
Tumble
Mountain.
2010,
first year U23, I won 4 Senior Road Races racing for the Glasgow
Wheelers, as well as 27th
in the 3 day Tour Doonhame Premier Calendar, 42 secs down on the
winner.
The
next year, racing for the Endura/Pedal Power Development Team, I got
two 15th
places at the Richmond and East Yorkshire Premier Calendar road
races, getting into the winning break in the latter. I was 18th
overall in the Tour Doonhame, winning the KOM up the Mennock pass on
Stage 1.
In
2012, my season was split in two. The first half I raced for
Herbalife LLB in which I got in the winning break in the raining
hilly stage 3 of the Tour Doonhame coming 11th
in Stage and overall GC.
I
based myself in Igorre in the Basque region of Spain for the 2nd
half of the season. I gained many top 10's in the Elite and U23 road
races including 6th
in a top elite race in Lakunza. I was in the break all day in Stage 2
in the tough 4 day Vuelta Valencia.
In 2013, I raced a full season in Spain. Basing myself in Zeanuri in the Basque Region of Spain
racing for U23 team, Opel Ibaigane. I had a great season with the Team, with one of my best highlights was claim 2nd U23 in the tough Vuelta Valencia Elite Stage race in September.
2014 see's myself racing across Europe with new British Elite Team KTM road&trail.com based near Manchester.
One of my biggest goals for this year is to earn a place in the Scotland Road team for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this August. Giving it my all to help the team win a medal in front of the huge crowds in my home city would be awesome.
